Hurricane Retrievers was started out of a passion for hunting waterfowl in Maryland. Having always wanted a hunting companion the day finally arrived when I purchased my first Labrador retriever, I purchased Maxwell's Custom Blend "Max" from a breeder in MO. After some basic obedience training MAX was sent to Ponderosa Kennels, Smithsburg, Maryland for his basic and advance training under the careful eye of Professional Dog trainer Pat Nolan. After about 4 months and my regular visits to the training grounds watching Pat train "MAX", I finally took home my hunting companion. During this campaign of working with my hunting companion, and many hunting trips I grew a fondness for training and was intrigued watching Pat work his magic training retrievers. I was amazed by the number of people who would come out to train with Pat and other dogs handlers training their dogs in preparation for field trails, hunt test, and Super Retriever Series (SRS). Well after my first hunting season with "Max" I wanted to continue training with "MAX" but came to realize with Pat's assistance Max would just be a hunting companion. I mentioned to Pat about continuing my interest in field trails, hunt test so I purchased another dog to help my desire to train dogs for competition. He referred me to a person in Pennsylvania who was having a litter of labs with a strong pedigree in Field Trails and Hunt Tests. I purchased a female puppy from Just Ducky Retrievers - Breeder Vince & Amber Carr. The puppy's where whelped on the date Hurricane Lily hit the coast. Thus the name for the pup "Hurricane Lily". Lily has been living up to her name being a whirlwind activity and a joy to train, thus "Hurricane Retrievers" was born trying to fulfill this endless desire to train and compete.
